End of term 3

Thank you for remembering to tape ears or send in tape for the children to do. They were very independent at this on Friday.

On Tuesday it is safer internet day. We will be looking at computer use through a story called Smartie the Penguin  www.childnet.com.

We often talk about keeping safe whilst using the internet and appreciate that most children are closely supervised at home if they do have access. We also realise that every now and again, children as young as ours do gain access to You Tube sites without adults knowing. We are in a technological age and I am most impressed by many skills the children have and the confidence with which to try new things.

Every now and again over the years, children will mention games that they have played on or watched an adult playing such as GTA or Assassins Creed. Much like with a DVD or film at the cinema you would check that the film is age appropriate, this is also true of games and You Tube clips.

Home learning is to learn the tricky words by sight and continue to try spelling the 8 words on the Look, cover, write, check sheet. When hearing reading, we are finding it helps if the child reads a page, you read the same page and the child rereads it. This is giving them confidence with unfamiliar words as well as building up fluency and expression.
The children have really loved Jack and the Beanstalk so we will be continuing with our adventure after the holidays. However I think it will see a slight change in direction, heading into the Smartest Giant in Town as we all love Julia Donaldson and I can see term 5 having her as our focus. I just don't know with which book yet as I like the children to lead in their learning which is why my planing always changes direction.
