Continuing to create shape monsters/ robots, being assessed against the ELG of Shape and Space; recognising and talking about different shapes and properties.
In RE we were celebrating New Years day (a little late) and looking at traditions . We watched a clip of Big Ben chiming and people singing Auld Lang Syne. We thought about what the words might have meant.
We read a poem called Hooray, Hooray, its New Years Day which we found very amusing and it made us think of what we would like to be if we had the choice. You will be able to see these when you next look in their journals as well as the promises they have made to get better at doing something.

Hooray!
Hooray! It’s New Year’s Day!
The day we start anew. So this year I’ve decided to become a kangaroo.
Or
maybe I will learn to fly,
or how to walk through walls, or how to turn invisible, or surf on waterfalls.
I’ll
make myself elastic
and I’ll teach myself to shrink. I’ll turn into a liquid and I’ll pour me down the sink.
I’ll
visit other planets
and meet aliens galore. I’ll travel to the distant past and ride a dinosaur.
I’ve
got so many wondrous plans.
I’m starting right away. Yes, this will be the best year yet. Hooray! It’s New Year’s Day!

We are assessing against the physical development ELG; can children talk about healthy foods, do they know the importance of washing hands (particularly after using the toilet or before eating)
Back outside, the children were making shapes using natural resources.
As well as having a picnic.
We were ordering stick men by size and using correct vocabulary.
Deep in thought about what they had seen. To reach expected in the writing ELG children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. ( these are the words we are starting to learn as spellings) They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible
Please can I remind you that PE is on a Friday and if your child has earrings, they will need to have these covered up or removed.
Sometimes when we are releasing children, it is difficult to see where you are if you are standing near the gate. We try to make release time as safe and as efficient as possible . If you need to retrieve something from the class or speak to an adult please can you wait until we have seen children out. Thank you.
